May I answer the opening question with the question:
Between Pilate and the Jewish people of Jesus' time, who appears to be the wiser? They both had "the truth" standing right there in front of them!
it is an often asked question i know, but it perplexes me.. if witnesses are so convinced that they have "the truth", why is the act of researching information from external sources so taboo?
didn't the bible itself tell people to "use their powers of reason" and also praised ones like the boreans for researching things they were told??.
seriously, if there is no doubt about the organization being "god's channel" on earth, and it alone having the "truth", surely researching would only enhance such 'facts'?.
May I answer the opening question with the question:
Between Pilate and the Jewish people of Jesus' time, who appears to be the wiser? They both had "the truth" standing right there in front of them!
i often wonder if the current crop of witnesses, especially the youth and younger ones simply don't care about facts?.
i mean for some, even with knowledge of the past scandals, misleading teachings, mistruths, etc etc, they simply don't care.
"it is the truth after all".. they are so intertwined in the operations and activities of the society, that they cant see anything outside of it.
Beliefs can happily flourish without any facts at all.
Yes, they do because people are bound also by objectives, not just beliefs.
Like "alternative facts"...outside the JW world.
never fully all underlying reasons
correction: never fully understand all underlying reasons.
S K Dita, I would be interested to know whether you have had the same calibre of exchanges with loyal JWs that you have had here. My interest arises because JWs are incredibly alert to any whiff of engagement in discussing topics that go beyond JW organization's current views.
Thank you for the inquiry, Steve.
The insecurity that produces such loyalty does bar discussion, and indeed decreases the calibre. Among JWs...it is commonly so. It's okay to sympathize with such insecurity, perhaps even needed; for one can never fully all underlying reasons. Calibre of exchange then, becomes secondary.
Hope, this is some sort of an answer.
Welcome S K Ditta , when i first saw your name tag I thought you were a St Kilda supporter LOL oh well my bad.
Aussies will understand that misconception.
Its always good to get anothers perspective of things,
Take care.
Thank you, Smiddy.

Farage has never even managed to win a seat in UK parliament, never mind win election outright.
Ah! But the potential damage from his "Brexit-inducing" words (misleading narrative, so proven in subsequent interviews) is already palpable way outside the UK...
we have been taught that the name jehovah means “he causes to become.” it is interpreted that he causes himself to become whatever needed to accomplish his will—as happened in the case israelites to whom he “caused himself to become” a savior leading them from slavery in egypt.. but there is a problem with this definition.
nobody would use the phrase “cause to become” with regard to himself.
one may say: “i helped him,” (but he won’t say: “i caused myself to become a helper to him.”) “causing myself to become a helper to another person” obviously implies helping nature comes with effort as though it is not in my nature.
a case here of Hebrew idiomatic expression that doesn't quite mesh with our current way of expressing the idea
Succinctly put!
These conversations, were they to be in another language, would be perceived quite differently. God's attributed name is, no exception.
I personally see wisdom in ambiguity; perhaps it is adaptability! This "ambiguity" or "adaptability" affords us the freedom we so cherish; also opportunity to reveal what is deep in our hearts.
hey there.. if this point has been covered before please forgive me.. i have had the principles of noahs flood used by jw's to encourage me to attend meetings recently and this has got me musing about the flood....again.. genesis states that a river flowed from eden and branched out into four rivers, two of which being the tigris and the euphrates.. heres the baffling part; if it had never rained before, how is it that rivers existed before the flood?!!?.
a brief google search tells us that the euphrates begins its journey as snow melt and rain ( as most rivers do) in mountains in turkey.. ecc chapter 1 mentions the water cycle and describes the rivers flowing into the sea but the sea not becoming full.
how did it work pre-flood?
pretty pictures, important only if there really was a talking snake, and the Earth created in the beginning, instead of 10 billion years later.
The ancients sure had a much grander view, a telling vision of life and kingdoms.
All this information, propaganda campaigns, and criticism on the Internet has degraded the human mind, and sunk many into a very disillusioned state of hopelessness. Even great thinkers of our times see it now, and fear for the future of the coming generations.
The value of the vision - human or divine - stands upon the believer to a large extent...10 billion years old earth, or merely a little over 6,000.

The value of the UN cannot be overstated.
It is the indeed the grand stage of the world's theater! And Samantha Powers, representing the US made quite a grand exit by abstaining from supporting Israel for the first time in a long history of US-Israel relations. This happened at the close of the Obama tenure as President, year 2016.

One of the most fascinating political experiments in the contemporary world is occurring in China
Thank you, Fulltimestudent. Your response is rooted in observation.
The case of China must be understood in its cultural context. The stamp down on the commoners, anti-individualism, and strong nationalistic sentiment could perhaps not be sustained in a free-minded, "enlightened" Western setup.
The idea of a national identity is possibly and strongly being advocated in France, Germany, and Austria at present. The size of population makes such movements rapid and sustainable. With larger populations dissent is an ever-growing, ever-present problem. Wouldn't you say?
